It’s the End of the World as We Know It… and We Feel FINE

Whether you’re an employer or an insurance agent, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, signed into law on March 23rd, changes everything. Business owners are understandably worried, and their agents aren’t sure what to tell them. How will the new law affect their rates? Can they afford to keep their health coverage? And should they?

In a three-hour presentation, we’ll cover the major areas of concern in the new legislation and try to answer the tough questions that business owners are asking. We’ll conclude by showing employers how they can stay up-to-date on health reform and make sure they’re complying with all of the new requirements.

TOPICS COVERED:

  • Grandfathering: What is a grandfathered plan? What plan changes are allowed? Is keeping your grandfathered status worth the cost? What should you do?
  • 2010 and 2014 Plan Changes: Which benefits are grandfathered? Which changes apply to all plans? And what’s the deal with the Essential Benefits Package?
  • The Small Business Tax Credit: Who’s eligible? How much is the credit? And what can employers do to maximize the credit they receive?
  • The Individual Mandate: In 2014, all plans will be guaranteed issue and everyone will be required to purchase coverage – but will they? Learn about the carrot and stick approach the government is using to convince people to buy health insurance.
  • Employer Requirements and Penalties: What are Small Employers (2-50) and Large Employers (51+) required to do, and what happens if they don’t?
  • The Exchange: What is the Exchange and how will it work? Are there any other options?
  • Piles of Paperwork: What new reports, notices, and tax forms will employers be responsible for? How do they keep up with it all? (Note: All attendees will receive a special Health Reform Compliance Timeline and Checklist.)
  • Other Stuff in the Bill: New CO-OP plans and multi-state options, Medicare and Medicaid changes, and tons of new taxes.
  • Prognosticating: Which parts of the legislation are likely to change? What are the chances that the whole thing will be repealed?

Don’t miss this opportunity to get up to speed on health reform – learn about the changes that kick in this year, the additional paperwork that will be required, and the strategies that will save employers money both now and in 2014.

Health Reform Survival Tips

"In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment." –Charles Darwin

The bad news is that you have to deal with health reform. The good news is that your competitors do as well. As we move toward the 2014, those agents and employers who are able to adapt will be in the best position not only to survive but to thrive under health reform. This course will show you how to turn lemons into lemonade and actually come out ahead as a result of the health reform legislation.

  • TOPICS COVERED:

    • How to become a health reform expert: Knowledge really is power, and what you don’t know CAN hurt you.
    • What will your plan look like in 2014? Here’s a hint: it will probably be a bronze-level plan. What will that plan look like, and how do you get from here to there?
    • Time to drop the dependents? Most employer plans extend coverage to dependents, but there’s no requirement to do so. How do you limit coverage to employees, and what are the advantages & disadvantages of doing so?
    • Are FSAs going away? Employees love Flexible Spending Accounts, but they’ve recently had the wind knocked out of them. Will they survive health reform, and if not, what’s the alternative?
    • HSAs and HRAs: Consumer-directed plans have grown exponentially in the past few years, and they’re only getting started. Learn why these may be the plans of the future…and how to explain them to employees.
    • Defined Contribution: using employer money to pay for individual premiums: Can you do it? Why would you want to?
    • Wellness Grants: Wellness programs improve the health of employees and have a huge positive impact on both absenteeism and presenteeism. So how do you get your share of the $500 million in grant money?
    • More Bang for Your Buck: Employers spend a lot of money on employee benefits. Learn how to maximize your ROI by making sure employees understand and appreciate what you’re giving them.
    • Carve-Outs, Staffing Companies, Seasonal Workers, and other fun topics

Hey you, get your damn hands off my commission!

Most insurance agents take pride in the service they provide for their clients, but let’s face it – we’re not going to work for free. That’s why brokers are so worried about the minimum Medical Loss Ratio requirements that go into effect next year and the Exchange which will be in place in 2014. But how worried should we be? Will we still have a job, and if so, how will our role change? Are there any opportunities to make More $$$ under health reform? These are the questions we’ll try to answer in this one-hour session to wrap up the day.

TOPICS COVERED:

  • Minimum Medical Loss Ratios: Is there room in the 15-20% to pay agent commissions?
  • The role of the agent in the Exchange: What the hell is a navigator, and how can agents become one?
  • Positioning yourself as a health reform expert: a.k.a. “How can things that confuse you benefit me?
  • Why agents who sell Medicare products aren’t nervous about reform: What you need to know about this growing market
  • Ancillary products: Is it time for a second look?
  • Brainstorming: What are agents doing to position themselves for reform? An open discussion that will likely continue over drinks…
